It started off as a normal morning, if there is such a thing around a house with 3 small kids. Just doing our usual morning ritual, moving into lunchtime. I decided (after trying to ignore how gross they are) that it was time to wash the kids comforters and blankets. The two of them are notorious for sleeping on top of all their blankets, so their comforters need to be washed often.
I started working on that, and crammed them into our ridiculously tiny washing machine in an effort to save myself two loads and some time. Ran downstairs and started fixing lunch. I was already in trouble with Jericho, who was hollering at me because when he wants food, he wants food 5 minutes ago. So I give him some milk, and start on the kids' sandwiches. (They were mad with me because I decided we were not having pb&j today. But I tried to make up for it by offering the go-gurt we had just bought yesterday at the store.)
As I'm making sandwiches I hear the washer making a weird noise. I run upstairs thinking things just need to be adjusted and life will go on. (I do this all the time, the thing is ridiculously small and I'm ridiculously impatient so I always put too much in...but I thought we had an understanding.) There is water sprayed all over the wall and seeping out on the floor. I fling open the washer and throw towels on the floor to try to soak it up, and hear "OH. NO." from downstairs.
Run down the stairs to find Merrick, the kitchen table, and the chairs in a puddle of chocolate milk. (Jericho is done with his milk and has thrown his cup in the floor and is looking at me like, "where is the meat and potatoes, ma?" And by looking I mean whining loudly.) I send the kids into the living room with their go-gurt, and tell them to sit on the bricks by the fireplace which will be easier to clean should what happened next, in fact, happen. If they stayed on the bricks, that is. They did not. I am in the process of giving Jericho some bread and banana, and finishing up their sandwiches, and cleaning up the chocolate milk spill when I hear "UH. OH." from the living room.
I knew it was go-gurt. I knew it was Merrick. (Spills usually are. When one does martial arts while eating one tends to spill things.) I just didn't know it would be all over the living room like a go-gurt grenade went off. Come to find out, after a little losing-of-the-cool I had managed to keep thus far, Merrick was pretending the go-gurt was a worm, and stomped. on. it. Naturally. So it was literally all over the carpet, the coffee table, the couch, and (drum roll please) the laptop. This was when I wanted to shake my fist at the sky and scream, "WHY?!", but then I realized I still had water all over the upstairs, chocolate milk all over the kitchen, go-gurt all over the living room, and Jericho choking because he stuffs too much food in his mouth at once when left to his own devices, I really didn't want to find out what else could go wrong.
The rest of the story kind of is a blur of Swiffers, towels, Resolve, and clorox wipes. But I did finally get it all cleaned up. And they did all finally actually eat lunch. I think it will be awhile before go-gurt makes a reappearance at the table, however. And a dirty comforter never killed anyone, right?

Up to My Eyeballs
I'm up to my eyeballs in a lot of things. Things like laundry, dirty dishes, peanut butter and jelly, drool, bills, etc. Some good things, some bad things. I guess those all sound kind of like bad things. Well, except for the pb&j, that junk never gets old.
I am also up to my eyeballs in children, which isn't a bad thing. It can be an exhausting expensive exasperating thing, but generally a good thing. I'm also up to my eyeballs in just one more thing...weirdness.
I'm not sure if all kids are this goofy, or if it's just mine. (Feel free to weigh in so I feel like this type of behavior is normal.) Tirzah definitely takes the cake in the weird department. I think she decided she wants to leave her mark in this house, not as the only girl, but as the oddball. The position for Spiderman/hoarder (Merrick) and gigantor/baby (Jericho) was already taken, so she just made up her own. It suits her I think.
One thing I'll probably never be up to my eyeballs in? Boredom.

While You Were Sleeping
I'm probably (ok definitely) one of those moms who shares maybe a little too freely on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter. People probably think, oh no, it's her again. But honestly I just can't keep the hooligans' shenanigans entirely to myself. I feel like the world needs to know what I put up with...I mean, how cute they are.
Along those lines I started recently sharing the occasional shot of the hooligans in some of the ridiculous positions I find them sleeping in, since I almost always check on the 3 of them before I go to bed myself. Typically Tirzah is the one I find hanging off the bed, under the bed, yelling at her bed, etc. She sleeps like a UFC fight.
Merrick is a little more tame in his sleep, but Jericho has been known to be found with both legs sticking out of the crib rails. And I figure if people on social media are interested in what a Kardashian does in their spare time, or exactly how many times preggo Princess Kate puked today (I honestly do feel sorry for her), or what exactly happened between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey...then surely they will care about this right?
Not sure if you'll find the hooligans on the nearest issue of People magazine...I kinda hope not. But I think they make for some interesting entertainment.

Better Late than Never
I had hoped to take the kiddos to a local garden where they do a great light display over the holidays, but we never actually made it there. It's honestly kind of expensive, and they were so impressed with our neighbor's "crazy tree" (it looked like the light department at Walmart threw up on a tree) that I decided we could do without.
Then the other day when we came home from church, one of our neighbors (not the one who owns crazy tree) came running out the door and told us how she and her roommate weren't able to use tickets to the light festival, and wondered if we could. Um, score. We were pretty grateful and the kids had a great time.
It went pretty well. There were several near misses with various little ponds, and one episode of extremely loud yelling while we were in the greenhouse about how the flowers were "sooo stinky". These children are so classy I tell ya. There was a pretty cool dragon light display as well, (first picture) and they may have yelled loudly as they ran through it that they were running down the dragons throat to choke him so he wouldn't "fire us". I'm really not sure where this kind of thing comes from, but I'm so glad that I have them to save me from dragons.
I'm pretty grateful for this neighbor's thoughtfulness. While something little, it really was a great gift and gave us the chance to do something fun with the hooligans...all embarrassing hooligan outbursts included. I mean, they wouldn't be the hooligans without them I guess. ;)
