Traditional

So I'm not necessarily big on traditions. I mean, I'm not the kind of person who loves change or anything, (I like routines and like to have a plan...not even necessarily big on surprises either) but I don't always stick to the traditional either. But certain traditions I love and look forward to every year, like watching all the Christmas specials that come on TV. The last two nights its been The Grinch and Rudolph.

Much to my husbands dismay, I watch these things every year. Thankfully now the kids will watch them with me, and Billy is free to snicker from the other room. I don't blame him exactly...I realize a 25 year old man should not be expected to be thrilled about watching a cartoon from 40+ years ago. But anyway, like I said, despite my love for certain traditions, there are others that I can do without. Like this year, for example when we decorated for Christmas, we noticed that I used zero red and green. I guess blue and brown are the new red and green?

I'm also the type of person who likes to do things all the way, or not at all. This is a trait that has occasionally gotten me into trouble, but at the same time can be helpful for getting things done. Recently I decided that I wanted to do something fun, something for me, something "non-mommy" before Baby J is born. I have never colored my hair, so I decided I wanted to get some highlights. I also decided, hey, why not pink highlights?

I love the way they turned out, and it was fun to change things up and do something not expected before I fall into the expected chaos and lack of sleep of a new baby, as much as I'm looking forward to it. There is something to be said for many traditions, this entire season of Christmas is full of meaningful traditions based on the Savior that I base my life on. And I think there is also something to be said for change, and for growth, and for using both change and tradition to make us better than when we started.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
